So far....
We have now had a little over 6 weeks to adjust to parenthood. It has been an exciting learning experience. The first two weeks were definitely the hardest and their were times when I asked myself "why didn't anyone talk about this part of it?" By the 3rd week everything was going smoother and it has gotten easier every day.
I think Luke weighs about 10 lbs and is about 25 inches long. We had a tricky time putting him on a baby formula but a few projectile vomiting spells and several changes of clothes later ( for both of us) we found one that works. Luke never turns down a meal. He has had a few outings to the grocery store, to dinner or to Nana and Pappy's house but other than that at home most of the time. Luke will get to go to church and actually meet people after he has his vaccinations. Luke is only waking us up one time during the night so we feel very blessed. Luke is a great baby: he sleeps, eats and poops just like every other newborn but he has also started smiling and cooing. He is beginning to show us glimpses of his little personality.
Luke's likes: the sound of running water, bath time, liquid vitamins, grape pedialyte, (also still likes lights and his swaddle me blanket)
Luke's dislikes: being burped, the booger sucker, face wash in the absence of bath time
Cute things Luke does: smiles and coos
Things we have learned: poop stains, one bottle of the wrong formula leads to 3x that amount of projectile vomit
On an additional note: John passed his comprehensive exams and is set to graduate on May 8. Yeah!

Happy Birthday Luke!
Luke David Brewer was born at 5:50pm on Tuesday March 3, 2009. Luke was 20 inches long and weighed 8lbs 7ounces. He was 6 days early. We spent two nights in the hospital and came home on Thursday.
We are so excited he is finally here. We are slowly adjusting to a new schedule, lack of routine and lack of sleep........... we have been blessed to have tons of friends and family praying for us, encouraging us and bringing food. For some reason Luke does not always follow the schedule I am trying to put him on so I often find it difficult to do any housework or cooking. :)
Luke's likes: lights, sponge baths, tummy time, swaddle me,
Luke's dislikes: diaper changes during feeding time, being hungry,
Cute things Luke does: throws his arms above his head every time he sneezes, facial expressions, tummy time
Things we have learned: working toward a schedule is very important, sleeping when the baby sleeps is easier said than done, during diaper changes- no matter how well you think you cover it is probably not good enough,

Here We Go!!
My water broke at 1:30 on Tuesday morning (3/3/09). We arrived at the hospital at 2:15 and that is when contractions started. I received an epidural at 5:45, thank goodness!! I was able to sleep and watch movies during my 14 hours of labor. Pushing started around 4:15pm and lasted until 5:50 when our little man finally made his appearance. John was such a crucial part of making labor and delivery go so smoothly. John did everything I asked him to do, prayed for me, and consistently told me he was proud of me. When we were moved to our official room following delivery, John surprised me with a necklace that has Luke's birthstone. I feel so blessed to have both of these men in my life!!
